Ranch Biography
Hansen Registered Angus is located in the northeastern corner of Montana, about 7 miles west of the Montana/ North Dakota state line and approximately 50 miles south of the U.S./ Canadian border.
My wife, Lanette, and I own and operate the ranch where I was born and raised. We have three children: Paul and his wife, Megan and their daughter, Molly and son, Oscar; Eric and his wife Cecilia and their children, Caleb, Eli, Gabby, Ash, Lucia and Tessa; and Beth and her husband, Brendan and their son, Lucas, and daughter, Grae.
We purchased our first registered Angus cattle in 1982 and have been raising Angus ever since. Long, harsh winters and short growing seasons with limited rainfall have shaped our breeding philosophy. Winter feed is our main expense and while the majority of it is raised on the ranch, supply often dictates that we purchase hay and/or supplements. Grazing consists of primarily native grass while most of our tillable ground is used as hay land or seeded to tame grass varieties for early and late season grazing.
Along with our Registered herd, we also run commercial cattle. We A.I. both herds and have enhanced our genetics through the use of our embryo transplant program.
Throughout this website you will notice an emphasis on the Angus cow, hence our motto: “Sound Proven Maternal Genetics.” We hope you take time to navigate the website and invite you to contact us as we look forward discussing Angus cattle with you. We intend to update the website often with information about our breeding philosophy, sale dates and offerings, and pictures and videos of our cattle. Thank you for your interest.
