2018 Annual Bull Sale

Cattlemen,

As we look to close the books on 2017, we at Hansen Resigered Angus want to wish you and your family best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2018.

2017 certainly presented its challenges here in Northeastern Montana as rainfall totals here at the ranch were less than 6 inches. While the grass in our pastures held up surprisingly well, the hay crop was thin at best and by the end of the summer our creeks and dams were low if not completely dry.

The drought situation forced us to alter our 2018 bull sale plan. With the exception of about a dozen or so, we decided not to carry over the yearling bulls to sell as 2-year-olds. Grass and water supplies were limited enough that we chose to sell down 80% of our yearling bulls last spring rather than significantly reducing our cow numbers.

Hence this spring, we will be marketing a handful of coming 2-year-old bulls along with about 50 or so yearling bulls.  We are also going to forego an internet auction and are instead going to have an opening day private treaty sale on March 20th, in conjunction with our noon meal and sale bull preview. Sale lots will be auctioned off that day at the ranch beginning at 1:30 PM. Any lots not sold on March 20th will be available by private treaty on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning March 27th.  Further details on the sale will be listed in our sale catalog and on our website in the near future. Videos of the sale lots will also be available on our website.

We will feed the bulls until June 1st and, as always, provide free delivery. If you need the bulls before June 1, we will get them to you.

The bulls were weaned in early November and are doing well on a ration meant to let them express their growth potential without harming their long-term physical health.

Sires of the bulls include:

All of these sires were chosen for use in our herd based on their ability to sire sound, structurally correct progeny and the maternal background their dams, granddams, and great granddams posess. If you wish view their pedigrees, you can see them on the American Angus Association website at www.angus.org, or by simply clicking on the registration number next to each sire listed above.

Again, we want to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year, and invite you to call us with any questions you may have about the bulls or our breeding program.  Better yet, stop by the ranch and see the cattle for yourself–visitors are always welcome.

Sincerely,

Rick A. & Lanette Hansen
